"I make things as much as I collect them"
There is a marvelous French word with no exact English equivalent that describes in part what Ruth Baza do: Bricoleur. Used by Claude Levi-Strauss to describe the builders and maintainers of myths, "bricoleur" literally means a tinkerer or a jack of all trades. A bricolelur is the artisan who creates from what is at hand, rather than from a set list of needed components to achieve an end.
After a few years of collecting passionately Victorian taxidemy mounts and animals, feathers, skulls, books and glass domes, apart of antique clothing and all kind of accessories, from the middle of the 16th century to the 1900´s -gowns, shoes, hats, purses, lingerie, luggage, pictures, books, patterns, furniture, etc-, of accumulating a million antique beads, sequins, cristals, charms, thousands of antique pictures, daguerrotypes, tintypes, hundreds of vintage tin cans and boxes full of miscellaneous fabrics, buttons, wonderful laces, stones,threads, and bits of embellishment and of studying fashion and textile restoration, two years ago Ruth Baza decided to experiment with taxidermy, specifically, anthopomorphic taxidermy.
Studying and tons of research naturalism, cabinets of curiosities and natural museum´s history,ensured her a maximum sense of freedom and an unlimited ability to display her ideas. She has always loved to combine and do lots of things in decoration and art, assembling and mixing different vintage and/or antique fabrics and objects, so she thought it was the right moment to share her creative talents with the rest of the world.

Ruth just works with authentic antique and vintage stuff to create her pieces, using and mixing different kind of animals -birds, small mammals, insects, skulls, etc- with silver, wood, blown glass, bisque dolls, corals, bakelite, silk, antique Victorian laces, gold, brocades, passementerie, leather, linen, copper, art nouveau buckles and buttons, charms, etc.
